A to Z of being vegetarian

Are you considering going vegetarian or vegan? Or you might have kids who have decided to take plant-based path? Changing your diet for medical reasons? Or as a health conscious family you are aiming to shift your eating towards vegetarian diet?

It can be difficult and confusing at times to navigate all the conflicting information out there about following plant-based way of eating. And quite often it happens that when you switch to a vegan diet you feel healthier and lighter, and that is usually because your new diet is now rich in fruit and vegetables giving your body plenty of opportunities to detoxify and providing your digestive system with nutrients it needs to rest and repair itself. However, if not approached sensibly, following a plant-based diet long term may lead to potential problems. There are certain essential nutrients the body needs that are more difficult to obtain from plants only, so it's important to consider these carefully and plan your diet to optimise your health and wellbeing. And we are here to help you with that.

Join our naturopathic chef and nutritionist Olga Bonde for this practical workshop on all things plant-based and fermented. This evening will be a combination of hands on vegetarian cookery class with discussion, and will provide you with plenty of information on such topics as:

  • How do we get enough protein and essential nutrients, how to combine food to maximise and achieve complete protein intake. What happens if we don’t?

  • Essential fats, what are they and why we need them. What happens if we do not get enough of them, why you could be at risk of deficiencies even if your diet is rich in nuts, seeds and oils

  • Which nutrients you might be becoming deficient in and where to get them from. How fermented food can be of help in these situations.

  • Potential stumbling blocks you might face in a process of transition to a plant-based diet and how to overcome it

  • Are there any essential supplements you should take?

  • We shall discuss all that and many other subjects while prepare together our vegetarian/vegan dinner shared at the end of the evening, and you will go home with a wealth of material including recipes and nutrient charts.

  • And of course, since this course is run in our London Fermentary development kitchen, during the evening you will have an opportunity to explore & see projects we are currently working on, discuss all things fermented as well as enjoy our range of fermented food and drinks as a part of this class.
